The Byrd Yellow Jackets picked up a 43-13 District 1-5A victory over the Southwood Cowboys (0-6,0-2) at Lee Hedges Stadium on Thursday night.    T

The Jackets were carried on the back of Darin Marshall, who started in place of the injured Charles Barham. Marshall rushed for 152 yards and two touchdowns.

“I had a good game,'' Marshall said. "I’ve got to work on my ball security cause I had two fumbles tonight. We got the team win.”

Jalen Thomas also added two touchdowns and 81 yards for Byrd for the evening.

Although this was a big victory for Byrd (4-2,2-1) tonight, Jackts coach Mike Suggs would like to see some to improve on some breakdowns he said.

“We’ve got to play sharp,'' Suggs said. "We didn’t do that tonight in some areas. A lot of times we played well. We did some good things. We had some key little breakdowns and mental breakdowns and lack of discipline breakdowns.

"That’s what’s disappointing is the mistakes that we made shouldn’t be making. I’m not talking about fumbles. They hit us a couple of hard times and fumbled football and that is going to happen. I’m talking about the roughing the punter, trying to pick up the ball on a punt when its behind you. Little things that are undisciplined and we shouldn’t do.”
