SULPHUR — Sulphur scored 15 points in the fourth quarter, but it was big stops on the defense side that led to the Tors’ 22-9 win over C.E. Byrd Friday night at Matt Walker Memorial Stadium.

Last week, the Tors gave up more than 400 rushing yards in a 34-21 loss to Ouachita Parish, but held Byrd’s triple-option to 224 yards and forced two fumbles.

“The couple of stops that the defense was able to get gave the team some momentum,” Sulphur head coach Jeff Wainwright said. “This team came in with a really strong running attack.

“Those big turnovers were critical for us. Hats off to the defense and the defensive staff. They work really hard. You can’t simulate the speed at which these guys run their offense. They are so disciplined with it, but after we are able to catch up with the speed of it, our team adjusted well.”
