HAUGHTON—Charlie Barham was in the thick of the battle all night for the Byrd Yellow Jackets. When he wasn’t running the football up the middle, he became a great decoy.

A fake handoff to Barham allowed quarterback Carson Dunn to get the go ahead touchdown Friday night as the Jackets erupted in the second half for a 27-14 District 1-5A victory over Haughton.

Barham was the workhorse all night with 114 yards on 28 attempts. Barham got the attention on Dunn’s fake, but the sophomore quarterback pulled the ball and leaped 5 yards for a 10-7 Byrd lead. That came with 1:43 left in the third quarter before the Jackets pulled away.

It was Byrd’s first victory of the season. The Jackets are 1-5 and now 1-2 in district while the Buccaneers dropped to 4-2 and 1-1.
