For the sixth year in a row, C.E. Byrd took home the team title at the Shreveport City High School Wrestling Championships as seven Yellow Jackets picked up individual first-place medals Monday night at Byrd High School.

With less than two weeks remaining until the state championships (Feb. 12-13 at CenturyLink Center in Bossier City), Byrd finished with 81 points, 34 more than nearest competitor Northwood (47). Huntington came in one point behind Northwood for third place, followed by Evangel (40), Caddo Magnet (39), and Loyola (20).

“It’s exciting for us, with five seniors and an experienced group, to come out and perform like this in our home gym with the state meet coming up,” said Byrd head coach David Ebarb, who also served as the tournament director. “We’ve got some work to do yet, but we wrestled well (Monday) and we can get better going into the state tournament.”

Individual champions for the Yellow Jackets were Clay Celli (106 pounds), Hunter Rushing (113), Cornell Tolliver (126), Alex Williams (132), Najee Langley (145), Desean Britton (182), and Cameron Dale (220).
