Jackets take District 1-5A series from Panthers

The Byrd Yellow Jackets beat Parkway4-0 Thursday to complete the two-game series sweep of the Panthers. Byrd beat Parkway 9-2 on Tuesday in the District 1-5A opener for both teams.

Senior Brennan Ertz tossed a complete game, two-hit shutout to lead the Jackets. Ertz did not walk a batter and struck out six to earn his third win of the season. In his last outing on March 17, Ertz tossed an identical, complete game, two-hit shutout over the Jesuit Blue Jays.

Junior Steele Netterville collected two hits in two at-bats, scored a run and had a RBI to lead the Jackets offense.

In Tuesday's District 1-5A opener, Byrd scored four runs in the sixth on a two-run single by freshman Charlie Barham, an RBI double by Zavier Moore, and a RBI single by Wyatt Broome.

 Moore went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, a double and two RBIs on the afternoon.

Conner Gulledge was a workhorse on the bump while bagging the win for Jackets. Gulledge allowed one earned run, five hits and two walks while striking out three over seven innings of work.

Williams couldn't get it done on the rubber for the Parkway Panthers, taking a loss. He allowed six runs in 5 2/3 innings, walked four and struck out five.

Byrd never trailed after scoring two runs in the fifth on a solo home run by Moore.

The Jackets (12-6, 2-0) return to district play at 1 p.m. on Saturday wheny they battle the Evangel Eagles at The Hive .
