Former Airline and Centenary star pitcher Layton Tromba has joined the coaching staff at C.E. Byrd, head coach Greg Williams announced today. Tromba, who has coached at Centenary and Airline, will oversee the Yellow Jackets pitching staff.

“I’m excited to welcome Layton Tromba to the City of Byrd,” said Williams. “Layton brings a wealth of knowledge, particularly of the area, which is a nice asset to have. He brings an enthusiasm that I know our pitchers will enjoy.”

"I am extremely thankful and excited for the opportunity to coach alongside Greg Williams and his staff at C.E. Byrd, one of the best schools in the state of Louisiana," said Tromba. "I'm ready to bring a fun, passionate vibe to Byrd baseball, and instill lot of baseball knowledge and a hard work ethic in each player in the program."

A First-Team All-District and All-State selection for coach Toby Todd at Airline, Tromba helped lead the Vikings to back-to-back District 1-5A titles and the state playoffs in 2010 and 2011. He finished his senior season with a 9-1 record and a 1.55 ERA, which earned him District Pitcher-of-the-Year honors. The left-hander signed with Southeastern Louisiana out of high school and spent one season in Hammond, La. before transferring to Centenary College.

In his first season at Centenary, Tromba started 12 games while totaling 13 appearances for the Gents. He posted a 6-4 record with a stellar 2.83 ERA. As a junior in 2014, he was a First-Team All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) selection after pitching a team-high 75.2 innings, including four complete games also a team-best. Tromba finished the season with a 3-3 record and a 3.21 ERA.

The rest of the Byrd coaching staff includes Tyler Dupont, Caleb "Bug" Brooks and Charlie Cavell.
