DENHAM SPRINGS — Under ordinary circumstances, when a pitching staff has a chance to complete a no-hitter there is no shortage of support from the dugout.

Circumstances were unordinary Saturday morning in the second Louisiana High School Coaches Association all-star game at North Park, a contest the West won 7-1 while holding the East squad without a hit.

The East won Friday's first game 5-4.

Byrd left-hander Jonathan Fincher pitched the last three innings Saturday for the West, but had to endure some good-natured ribbing from his teammates. Barbe’s Adam Goree threw the first three innings and Berwick’s Cameron Wiley handled the middle three without allowing a hit.

“They kept talking about (the no-hitter) in the dugout,” said Fincher, a Louisiana Tech signee. “Goree was trying to mess me up, just for fun, because it was an all-star game. When I got on the mound in the ninth, he screamed it at me, ‘Don’t mess it up.’

"I was smiling. I had a good time with it.”

The West provided plenty of run support, scoring seven times on 13 hits. Center fielder Nick Webre of Teurlings Catholic showed off his batting skills, going 4 for 5 with two triples and three RBIs. Webre scored two runs and was named the game’s most valuable player.

“These events are just so fun,” said Webre, an LSU signee. “This one, in particular, you come out with the best guys in the state, play against good competition and just have a little fun. These are guys that we’ve played against during the year, so it's about bragging rights.”

The West took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Loreauville’s Bryson Broussard doubled and scored on Webre’s triple off the left field fence.

Barbe’s Slate Fuller followed with a bouncing RBI single to center.

Broussard led off the third with a single and came around to score on a double-play grounder.
