Byrd blows out Southwood 14-1 in District 1-5A play

The Byrd Yellow Jackets blew out the Southwood Cowboys 14-1 on Thursday.

Byrd scored seven runs in the fifth inning. The Jackets scored on a single by Julien DeLeon, a error, a single by Charlie Barham, and a double by Zavier Moore. It was the first appearance of the season for Moore, who injured his knee in week three of the football season. 

Jonathan Fincher earned the win for Byrd. He went four innings, giving up one run, two hits, and striking out nine. Anthony Dillon took the loss for Southwood Cowboys. He pitched four innings, surrendering nine runs, five hits, and striking out three.

Byrd collected nine hits. Blaine Hardy and Moore each collected multiple hits for the Jackets. Hardy went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Byrd.

The Yellow Jackets (11-12, 5-0) have now won five straight games and will face the Cowboys (5-16, 0-3) at 1 p.m., Sat., April 1 at The Hive.
