Byrd Preps For Sulphur

By Tim Owens, KTAL TV6

The Byrd baseball team advanced to the state tournament with a series win over Airline last weekend.

The Yellow Jackets like to call themselves the "Road Warriors" after making a run to the quarterfinals last season all on the road, and playing just nine home games in the regular season this year.
In the post season this year however the only time Byrd had to leave "The Hive" was for a trip across the river to Airline last weekend.
"One of the things all I always say is in the playoffs you got to be good but you got to get lucky as well" said Byrd Head Coach Greg Williams. "Obviously it helps staying in your own bed."
"We definitely caught some breaks with not having to travel and all of that. We were able to stay home and have some great crowds with all of our fans there and stuff. It's just been a great ride" said Junior Shortstop Zavier Moore.
"We basically played district twice but the second time meant a lot more."
Byrd will practice Thursday afternoon at Centenary before loading up the bus to go to Sulphur.
They'll also have a light practice at McNeese on Friday morning before taking on Acadiana in the state semi's at 4:00pm Friday.
