Name:Mike Suggs

Mike Suggs is in his 19th season as the head coach at C.E.Byrd. Suggs owns a 137-66 (.675) in his previous 18 years as the top Jacket, and he is the school’s all-time winningest coach. After leading Byrd to the 2013 Division I State Runners-Up, he was named the Coach of the Year by the Louisiana Football Coaches Association. Suggs was the Louisiana 5A Coach of Year and District 1-5A Coach of the Year in 2011 and 2002. He was an All-State end for the Southwood Cowboys in 1980. He played wide receiver for Northeast Louisiana University (NLU) receiving his bachelor of science degree in 1986. He then served as a graduate assistant coach with NLU's 1987 National Championship team. After a two-year stint at Southwood, he came to Byrd in 1990. In 1998, he became the 13th coach in Byrd history replacing Alan Carter. He and wife, Sandy, have a daughter, Cali, attending UL-Monroe and a son, Andrew, who plays baseball at Louisiana Tech.
