Lacrosse - Boys Coach
Name:Michael Pabst

Position:Head Coach

Michael Pabst, a 1983 graduate of Mississippi State University, is married to the former Carol Flowers and has two sons, Mitch and George. He is President and Creative Director for Pabst Creative Communications, a full-service advertising and graphic design studio, owner of Pabst Real Estate & Investments, and is the Executive Director of the Red River Youth Lacrosse Association.

First exposed to the game of lacrosse in 1977 at Northampton High School in Northampton, Massachusetts, he was re-introduced to the sport in 2003, when his oldest son joined the Byrd lacrosse team. Pabst served as Assistant Coach with Byrd High School Lacrosse under Coach Karl Mitchell from 2004-2013, earning Louisiana High School Assistant Coach of the Year honors in 2012. Coach Pabst took over the head coaching duties after the sudden passing of Coach Mitchell in 2013.  “As a coach, I challenge my players to be the best they can be; as teammates, students, sons and as individuals. I never ask anyone to do more than they are capable of, but always look for ways to motivate players, coaches and those around me, to recognize that they are capable of more than they realize. I use the game to teach the lessons it has taught me - to honor the Creator, train warriors, and to give back to the game. I challenged my players to be strong mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually,” says Pabst.

Entering his 13th season at Byrd, Coach Pabst’s track record of giving back, and helping grow the game go well beyond Yellow Jacket Lacrosse:

- In 2008, he was involved with the formation of the Louisiana High School Lacrosse League (LHSLL).

- In 2009, he helped host the first LHSLL Final-4 at Independence Stadium.

- In 2011, when one of Karl Mitchell’s former players, Rob Reeves, a member of Seal Team 6, was killed in Afghanistan, he and Karl set in motion the One Team-One Fight Lacrosse Tournament to honor our fallen warriors. Upon Karl’s untimely death, it seemed only fitting to honor him by changing the name to the Karl Mitchell Memorial One Team, One Fight Tournament, for which Pabst has served as Director for six years.

- In 2012, Coach Pabst helped establish the Caddo-Bossier Lacrosse Association (CABOLA), which is now known as the Red River Youth Lacrosse Association. His efforts helped sprout new high school clubs in Bossier, at Airline and Parkway, as well as the team at Cumberland Academy in Tyler, Texas.

- In 2014, he was recognized as the U.S. Lacrosse Boy’s High School Man of the Year, representing Louisiana. He was also nominated for the for the prestigious Gerald J. Carroll, Jr. Award, which measures the success of a coach not in victories, but in the care and guidance given to the balanced development of young men who play the game.

- He was named the 2015 Louisiana High School Coach of the Year.

Entering his fourth season at the helm, Coach Pabst sports an impressive 38-9 record.  When he’s not in his office or on the lacrosse field, you’ll find him renovating old homes and restoring his 1946 Chevy panel truck.
